automed automatic livestock medication system helping producers around the globe save

Global animal safety company Neogen has formed a distribution partnership with cutting-edge Australian innovator automed to provide a world-first piece of technology for producers medicating their livestock.

Neogen will be the primary global supplier of the automed automatic livestock medication system which has been on the market since early 2016 and is already making a name for itself in the United States, Canada, Asia and Europe.

The automed system comprises of both hardware and software for medication delivery, recording, validation, as well as inventory management. Designed for ease of use and with compliance and traceability in mind, the system has an open integration platform designed to complement and work with existing management software.

automed provides a traceable, tamper-proof way of auditing drugs given to all animals from birth, signaling the end of under and overdosing.

automed is suitable for injectable, pour-on, intranasal and oral medications, delivered by both line feed and bottle mount connections. automed serves the dairy, beef, pork and sheep industries, focusing on helping producers with sustainable use of resources, to raise animals consumers can have confidence in.

automed co-founder and chief executive David Edwards, who spent a decade developing the cutting-edge piece of technology with his business partners, said his company’s partnership with Neogen would make life easier for producers across the world.

“Neogen has established itself as a major producer and distributor of farming solutions for customers in the United States over the past 35 years and has grown to become a global influencer in the sector,” Mr Edwards said. “Our partnership with Neogen will see automed reach more producers in the USA to help cut their production costs and increase the efficiency of their operations. automed and Neogen plan to work together to further develop the automed solution to suit all livestock types. We want other industries to benefit from the value the system has to offer including improved ergonomics, savings in time, money and medication, and most importantly, complete transparency across their operations.” The automed adapter, which clips onto the applicator, is not only known to be the most accurate but also the most durable. The adapter has a lifespan two times longer than others on the market and provides a
lower per-head cost. Producers can experience a 15% rise in accuracy on dosing, which equals even more savings on wasted medication.

Farmers can view treatment records, track treatments, monitor device health and check for dose validation on handheld devices (tablets, mobile phones and watches) as well as desktop computers. Data can be stored in a cloud and accessed both on and offline at any time. Devices currently used in the livestock industry for medication delivery range from standard manual delivery devices to power medicators. Most current devices have durability and accuracy issues. Some are made cheap and only last a few doses while others last longer but are more expensive to purchase. Many producers are dosing to the average or highest weight and don’t have the time to manually adjust each
treatment, causing under and overdosing. Neogen sees the solution in automed as the automed system completely removes the element of human error and allows for efficient, effective weight based treatments. Benefits go all the way from the pharmaceutical company to the consumer.

“automed is gaining traction on a global scale. Producers are seeing the value and savings in the system every day. We’re pleased to be able to provide it to our customers and work with automed to develop further an already effective solution,” Neogen’s Mr Hastings said.
