Canberra mother of six, Kate Seselja launched The Hope Project in 2016, with the aim of changing the way people live their lives. Kate founded The Hope Project after struggling with a poker machine addiction for over 12 years. Through her healing and recovery she could see how others were struggling with life’s challenges; making poor choices such as addiction, gambling, and aggression to cope.

From Kate’s personal experiences she understands the importance of open communication, personal integrity, mental resilience and good health to the overall well-being and capability of a person. The United Nations Association of Australia (UNAA) are partnering with The Hope Project, to utilise Kate’s expertise in helping people understand the impact of their personal choices.

This partnership aims to educate Australians on the importance of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly the Number 3 SDG. Number 3 is on “Good Health and Well-Being” that ensures healthy lives and promotes well-being for all, at all ages. The UNAA realise to achieve all 17 SDGs by 2030 (as decreed by the United Nations) that Australians need to prioritise and work with the Goal Number 3 – Good Health and Well-Being, first.

The Launch of “Goal Number 3 Starts with ME” will occur on Monday May 15 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at Questacon, King Edward Terrace, Canberra.

“I am thrilled to be partnering with the UNAA for the benefit of all Australians, particularly those who are currently in overwhelm and feel like they are being left behind.” Says Seselja. “I feel an affinity for Goal Number 3, as I took my health and well-being for granted until my whole world was impacted by my addiction. It was a struggle for me to reclaim myself during my healing. Focusing on my health, becoming fit and being mindful of how I was feeling were the first steps in my recovery.”

At the event there will be a panel discussion featuring:

The event will commence with a welcome from Professor Graham Durant, Director of Questacon.
